The Key to a Sustainable Port is
Smart Planning
After 38 years at Port Canaveral, Mac has been involved in regional land planning issues. Key interest has been a commitment to protect Florida’s environment by reversing the destructive impact of continued sprawl development. Working with “myregion.org” and as a member of our 6 county Regional Planning Agency, he is aware that in the next 50 years intense traffic congestion, loss of environment resources, deterioration of our quality of life and stagnation of our economic base will occur if existing trends are allowed to persist.
Following retirement, Mac watched intently as Port Canaveral continued to develop, and linked the Port’s future with a new appreciation of what is in store for its natural trade area. In particular, landslide transportation congestion, lack of area to expand and competition from other Florida ports, are planning issues to be addressed by today’s Port Commissioners. Without a clear understanding of future growth challenges, a sustainable Port development will not occur. For this reason, Mac is again offering his services to the voter.
As demonstrated in the past, Mac will walk his talk. Rather than relying on green literature to project an environmental commitment, Mac rides his bike to work and recycled his old yard campaign signs from years past. Honk if you see him on A1A using a quicker-picker-upper to toss cans, bottles, and plastic containers in his bike basket for later disposal in the recycling bins.
If you feel that with good planning we can still have a quality life, not degrade our environment and grow in economic importance, VOTE…
